As we all know health is more than just physical, it's more than what we eat and how much exercise we do. Of course these factors are really important, but our emotional health is also hugely important in our overall state of wellness! This is where morning routines come in to the picture! They can really allow for a nourishing start to your day on ALL levels.
Picture this: Getting up after pushing your snooze button 3 times, rushing to have a shower and get dressed, and grabbing a coffee on the way out the door. You sit in traffic and arrive at work stressed and tense, with a whole day ahead of you.
Picture this: You wake up early, turn off your alarm and lay in bed for a few moments, silently thanking your bed for its warmth and comfort that allowed you a wonderful nights sleep. Then you get up, have a glass of water with lemon juice and sit in meditation for 10 minutes to half an hour. You have time for a relaxed shower and healthy breakfast before heading to work. Just reading this and you can imagine how much better the second option feels in your body.
Routines are very grounding, giving us a sense of direction and peace in our often chaotic lives. Our morning routines really do set the feel for the rest of our day. If you leave for work in a relaxed and peaceful frame of mind, chances are you will have an easier time maintaining that peace and calm throughout your busy work day.
I've found that its a lovely practice to wake up, thank my bed for my delicious sleep, get up, sit quietly and set the intention for my day. Sometimes I sit and set my daily intention or meditate after breakfast and exercise, it just depends on the day. Today's intention was to have a 'nourishing' day, both physically with the food I ate and moving my body, and emotionally by being kind and forgiving to myself. I also set the intention to have a productive day at work and enjoy my time there. Guess what? I had both a nourishing and productive day!
I also like to exercise in the mornings before work. This isn't always possible, and I don't beat myself up if I don't get it done. It's about doing what you can for yourself from a place of love.
Even if you only have ten minutes in the morning to yourself, make them a valuable part of your morning routine and use them doing something that nourishes you. Set your intention for the rest of your day, make yourself a yummy breakfast, meditate for 10 minutes, whatever it is that you can do just for you, do it! Your mind and body will thank you for it!
Here's to creating more peace and calm in your day.
Love and Light
